Step-by-Step Cancellation Guide

Before Chart Preparation

1 Login to IRCTC

Visit www.irctc.co.in and login with your credentials

2 Go to Booked Tickets

Click on "Booked Tickets" in the menu

3 Select Ticket

Find and select the ticket you want to cancel

4 Choose Passengers

Select passengers to be cancelled (partial cancellation allowed)

5 Confirm Cancellation

Review charges and confirm cancellation online

6 Get Refund

Refund will be credited to original payment method

Cancellation confirmed online immediately. Print fresh e-reservation slip for partial cancellations.

After Chart Preparation - TDR Process

E-tickets CANNOT be cancelled after chart preparation. You must file TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt).

For Normal Users

1. Login to IRCTC
Access your account on www.irctc.co.in
2. Go to Services Menu
Select "File Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR)"
3. Fill TDR Form
Provide journey details and reason
4. Submit & Track
Track refund status through IRCTC tracking service

For Travel Agents

Trains Starting Before 12 PM

Chart usually prepared on the previous night (around 8-10 PM)

Trains Starting After 12 PM

Chart prepared 4 hours before departure time

Chart preparation time is calculated from train's originating station or previous chart preparation station.

Online Only: E-tickets can only be cancelled online at www.irctc.co.in until chart preparation

No Counter: Cancellations are NOT allowed at face-to-face Railway Counters

Chart Time: For trains starting up to 12 noon, chart preparation is usually done on the previous night

Special Cases & Exceptions

Tatkal Tickets

  • • Confirmed Tatkal tickets: No refund will be granted on cancellation
  • • RAC/Waiting List: Charges as per existing Railway rules
  • • Partial cancellation: Allowed for Tatkal e-tickets

Train Cancelled

  • • If train is marked as "CANCELLED" due to operational reasons
  • • Full refund is permissible
  • • Must be cancelled within 3 days of scheduled departure
  • • Can be done by customer through Internet

Group/Family Tickets

  • • If some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are RAC/WL
  • • Full refund for confirmed passengers also available
  • • Condition: Ticket must be cancelled for ALL passengers
  • • Must be done within 30 minutes before scheduled departure
